Dear sisters and brothers in Christ,

I am delighted to announce that the Episcopal Electoral Synod has elected the Reverend Dr Mark Short as the eleventh Diocesan Bishop of Canberra & Goulburn.

Mark is currently the National Director of the Bush Church Aid Society, but prior to that was a priest and Archdeacon in this Diocese where he was ordained.  He is married to Monica and they have two adult sons.

Mark brings to the position a wealth of experience in national ministry with oversight and pastoral care of gospel workers across the country, as well as in parish ministry to regional and rural areas, where he has worked to develop sustainable and engaging ministry models.

In accepting the position he indicated he is honoured and humbled by God’s call to serve in this way. He said his family has very special memories of time already spent in the Diocese and they look forward to joining us again.  He also said that these are exciting days to engage in God’s mission and invites us to pray with him in these words from Romans 15:5-6:

“May the God who gives endurance and encouragement give us the same attitude of mind toward each other that Christ Jesus had, so that with one mind and one voice we may glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.”

Mark will be consecrated and installed in a service at St Saviours Cathedral in Goulburn in the New Year, at a time yet to be determined.

Warmest regards,

Bishop Trevor
